The Friday Faith Five: A Simple Christian Self-Care Routine for Women to End the Week Well

What if ending your week didn’t feel like collapsing—but like coming home to peace?

For Christian women juggling work, family, and their walk with God, it’s easy to feel depleted by Friday. That’s why I created The Friday Faith Five—a simple, soul-nourishing routine to help you transition from the hustle to holy rest.

Before this self-care routine became a rhythm, here’s a snapshot of what my Friday would look like:

It’s 1:45 p.m. on a Friday. I just finished a taxing work project.

My head hurts. My shoulders feel heavy. I start to stretch and realize I’ve been hunched over for nearly an hour, typing through final edits just to feel “accomplished.”

Now, I only have 15 minutes before I hop in the car to pick up my daughter from third grade.

I feel frenzied — like I haven’t come up for air all day. The sun is out. I should have soaked it up. My neck aches. I should have worked out. But I didn’t. And now it’s the weekend.

My stomach growls. Wait… did I even eat lunch?

I walk into the kitchen and spot the dishes piled high. Should I wash them in this in-between time? Or, make lunch instead of just grabbing a few snacks?

I reach for my phone to check the time. But then… Instagram pulls me in. Five scrolls later, it’s time to leave. I’m stuffing my face with snacks on my way out the door. Figures – It was bound to happen, LOL.

There goes my self-care time.

This was a snapshot of many Friday’s for me and I’m sure you’ve been here way too many times before, too.

We carry so much before transitioning into “weekend mode.”

I call this the FRIDAY FRENZY.

And let me tell you — anxiety loves Friday Frenzy.

It knows you’ve had a long week, dealt with difficult people, and all you want is a little self-care time. Is that really too much to ask?

And, the Friday Frenzy screams YES – before you even have a moment to check in with your gut, which is gently whispering: No. Taking care of yourself is good. You need simple spiritual practices.

But, when you finally get 10 minutes of breathing room… it makes you believe you need to do household chores to fill the “in-between” before going to pick up the kids, or even worse, scroll through social media, which can trap you in comparison.

I know this frenzy. You know this frenzy. We all know this frenzy.

We aren’t alone in this.

My nervous system knew I was dealing with this but I didn’t even know the words to describe the “Friday Frenzy” feeling until two things happened:

First, I was listening to Jess Connolly’s podcast when she described her anxiety around transitioning from the weekend back into the workweek — and she called it the Sunday Scaries. I immediately thought, Yes! That’s me too… but hold on — I also feel this way on Fridays. That bubbling, anxious feeling as the week winds down, but before I shift into mom-mode?

Boom. There it was… Transition-time anxiety.

And let’s just be honest — the enemy loves to lurk in those in-between moments. He loves the space where we’re vulnerable, distracted, or just too tired to notice what’s happening internally.

Then came the second lightbulb moment:

I was chatting with a program director about what day would be best for the women they serve to come out to the farm for therapeutic horticulture sessions. Without hesitation, she said: Friday.

CLICK.

She explained that she wanted moms to experience a moment of self-care after a long week of work and healing  — and she also wanted to pour back into her staff, who carry so much weight during the week.

CLICK. CLICK. CLICK.

Why Christian Need a Friday Faith Routine

It all made sense.

I needed a new rhythm for that sacred transition space — between my work-me and my mom-me. And it turns out other women need this too.

So, I started experimenting.

I paired my two favorite things: Jesus and Nature. And what I discovered was this beautiful, grounding mix of quick self-care practices that helped me feel at peace, present, and prepared for the weekend, especially for the people who matter most to me.

Now, depending on the mood, the weather, and whether or not I’ve eaten lunch (let’s be real), I turn to these five sensory-based practices. Each one helps take care of my mind, body, heart, and soul — and the best part?

They each take under 5 minutes.

5 Faith-Based Practices to End Your Week Well

LOOK – Focus on the Horizon + Hope

I start by looking up at the horizon — the sky, the clouds, the way the sunlight hits the trees. Whether it’s a golden sunrise or just a patch of blue in the chaos, I let my eyes settle outward instead of inward. That shift — from tunnel vision to peripheral vision — signals your body to relax. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system (a.k.a. the part that says, “You’re safe now. You can breathe.”)

Peripheral vision = Peace.
God designed our bodies this way on purpose.

He wants us to pause long enough to remember that His plans for us are so much bigger than the worries that weigh down our day.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’  declares the Lord,
‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.’” – Jeremiah 29:11

TOUCH – Feel Flowers + Herbs

This one’s my go-to, especially on Fridays.
When my thoughts are racing and my body feels like it’s buzzing, I reach for something to touch. A flower petal. A soft stem. An herb leaf between my fingers. It grounds me, and I swear I can feel my nervous system shift almost instantly.

Sometimes I arrange a bouquet from my garden. Sometimes I just pinch off herb leaves to dry for tea later. Sometimes I just stand there, holding a marigold or stroking a rosemary leaf, and let myself feel connected again.

This practice reminds me of the story when Jesus healed a sick woman in a crowd of people.

“And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, becuase she thought, ‘If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.'” – Mark 5:25

I LOVE reflecting on this story everytime I use touch nature.

SMELL – Breathe in the Goodness

This is where breath meets Scripture.

I gently rub a herb leaf — usually mint or lavender — and raise it to my nose. As I inhale the scent, I pair it with a truth from the Word.

INHALE: “The Lord is my shepherd.”
EXHALE: “I have all that I need.”

This pairing of breath, scent, and scripture is like a mini reset. It pulls me out of performance mode and back into peace. It reminds me that God is close. That I lack nothing. That the world doesn’t need me to hustle right now — it needs me to rest in Him and simply breathe.

HEAR – Listen to the Wind

I walk outside and just… listen.

It might be five minutes. It might be two. I sit or stand in stillness and let the sound of the wind moving through the trees, the bushes, or even the tall grass wash over me.

Even if my thoughts are wandering, I let the sound in. I let it move through me. The rustling leaves become a kind of sacred whisper, reminding me that God is always working, even when I can’t see it.

This quiet rhythm regulates my nervous system, but more than that, it brings my heart back to stillness.

TASTE – Sip Tea + Reflect

This one’s simple, but sacred. I do this when I can prep my tea before my 5 minutes of going to run out the door.

I make a cup of herbal tea — usually from herbs I’ve grown or dried myself — and use it as a moment to reflect. I’ll think back to a Bible verse I journaled that morning, or something I heard in a podcast or read in a book that week.

Sometimes I write a sentence or two.
Sometimes I just sip and sit.

But no matter what, I let it be a holy pause. A taste of peace. A small, quiet invitation back into presence — with God and with myself.

How a Simple Spiritual Rhythm Can Shift Your Entire Weekend

Maybe you’ve found yourself stuck in the Friday Frenzy more times than you can count. Me too. The truth is, this frantic energy before the weekend hits — isn’t a failure — it’s just a sign that your soul is craving rest.

The good news? You don’t have to stay stuck there.

What if, just this Friday, you paused for five minutes? Maybe you looked up at the sky. Touched a leaf. Sipped a cup of tea while whispering a verse back to your heart. One simple step toward peace can shift the whole tone of your weekend.

What is the Friday Faith Five? A Weekly Reset for the Soul

That’s exactly why I created the Friday Faith Five — a weekly email with a gentle encouragement, a short self-care practice, and a truth from God’s Word to anchor your heart. I pair my experience in horticultural therapy, plant science, human science and a passion for God’s written word, to meet you right in that transition space — between your work-me and your mom-me — with grace and wisdom.

I’d love to send it your way.
